Course Overview

This lesson provides guidance to psychiatrists and other clinicians who are planning to switch from traditional face-to-face clinical encounters to telemental health. Telemental health is an effective way to deliver mental health services during a pandemic in which social distancing, sheltering in place, and improved personal hygiene practices are the main tools for preventing the spread of infection. Policies regulating medical practices have been relaxed on both state and federal government levels to facilitate the use of this modality where possible. This lesson highlights recent changes that have been made to allow the use of varied technologies and methods of reimbursement and licensure to facilitate the use of telehealth for patient care.

Learning Objectives

  • Delineate the advantages of using telehealth/telepsychiatry as means of healthcare delivery in COVID-19 infection settings.
